When you’re checked-in at Discovery Shores Boracay, you would always face the difficult choice between “exploring the island” and “staying in.” They just know how to spoil their guests. Discovery Shores is located in Station 1,
To celebrate Discovery Shores Boracay’s 10th year anniversary, I decided to come up with 10 reasons why I keep coming back to this beautiful gem in the island.
A lot of people don’t look forward to the whole process of traveling to Boracay. The delayed flights, the long line to pay for your boat ticket, environmental fee, etc. With Discovery Shores, they save you from all the stress. The amazing service starts once you arrive in Caticlan, a staff from Discovery escorts you and helps you with your luggage. Then, a van service exclusive for guests take you to their private port. From there you go on a quick boat ride to the island (they give out free water bottles, wet towels, even cookies).
They love surprising their guests with quirky little surprises. If you’re a regular guest, they frame your photos and place them in your room, they welcome you with a bowl of fresh fruits, slices of cake, a refreshing pandan drink and a welcome foot massage. When you go out of your room, don’t be surprised if a staff comes up to you offering to spray mist on your face (lol) or clean your sunglasses! They really spoil you here, alright!
Not gonna lie, at first I was a bit skeptical with the thought of staying in a modern-looking room in such a beautiful island like Boracay. It’s quite ironic but it somehow works! The room is covered in a clean white color which is very pleasing to the eyes. We booked the Junior Suite which is basically their basic room category. It had a comfy queen size bed in the middle plus plenty of room for your luggage/s. I don’t mind spending the whole day inside my room!
Staying at Discovery Shores Boracay almost feels like you’re in a secluded island–and for me that is a good thing. I’ve stayed in a handful of different resorts in Boracay (mostly in Station 2 and 3) and honestly, nothing can even compare when you finally get to stay in Station 1. Sure, it can be more expensive but it is worth every penny. You get to have your own slice of paradise, soak in the pool or skip along Boracay’s white and powdery sand.
Did I mention that Discovery Shores has island guards scattered around the beachfront? This ensures the safety of their guests. We tried buying a hat from a local vendor and apparently it’s not allowed. We had to go beyond the “point” and buy it there. Haha! Yes, no one would bug you with locals offering you “parasailing, banana boat, sir!” Haha! You can swim at the beach without worrying about leaving your valuables on the shore.
One of the many things I love about Discovery Shores is their love for anything local. Sure, they cater to a lot of tourists but they make sure to inject our local culture and cuisine in every aspect and detail of the resort. Almost every dish they serve (see number 9) is every Filipino’s favorite merienda! From the food selection at the breakfast buffet, the complimentary dessert they deliver to your room, each dish has a Pinoy kick to it! They also include a small paper with an explanation of each delicacy. Good one, Discovery Shores!
Sure, there are plenty of beachfront resorts in the island but Discovery Shores seems to get a pretty huge stretch of the shore. That’s why they call it Discovery SHORES after all, right? *wink wink* Okay I should stop. I don’t know if it has something to do with how they branded it, but I had the best experience swimming at the turquoise waters and lazing around in their lounge chairs while sinking my feet in the island’s white, powdery sand. Since Discovery Shores is located in Station 1, you’ll feel like you’re in a secluded island (see number 3).
How do I even begin to describe the massage at Terra Wellness Spa? Discovery Shores Boracay really raised the bar to offer their guests the best possible experience in the island. During our 3 days 2 nights stay, Vina and I made sure to experience Discovery Shores’ famous Terra Wellness Spa. They start by welcoming you with refreshments while you fill up a form asking where you want the masseuse to focus on, etc. The spa area was spacious, clean, cozy and minimal–just the way I like it. Vina and I both got the Terra’s Touch massage. The therapist then presents 4 kinds of oil–uplifting, calming, detoxifying and rejuvenating. They drop a little on your palm for you to smell, then you choose which oil you like best. Once you step into the massage room, you change into a robe and they start with their signature foot massage. After that, you lie down on the massage bed and you basically get the best massage of your life! Haha! My masseuse told me that they often get fully booked because guests (who are not checked-in at the resort) usually go there to get a massage.
The massage was so good, I tried not dozing off just so I can remember the whole experience (sadly, I failed lol). After the amazing massage, I was sleep-walking back to my room! Haha! I had the best sleep of my life–so good that I almost didn’t make it to the breakfast buffet. Haha! Want to experience this too? You can book a treatment here.
No trip to Boracay is complete without a little happy hour session. Discovery Shores is a favorite by tourists and locals when it comes to happy hour, especially during Labor Day weekend! I really enjoyed their beach bar which gives you an amazing view of the famous Boracay sunset while enjoying their refreshing drinks. Don’t forget to try the mango and lychee mojito!
As hard it is to leave Discovery Shores’ super comfy bed, what makes me get up in the morning is their breakfast buffet selection. Haha! They pretty much have all my favorite food in the buffet! Think iced latte, hot chocolate, ripe mango juice, pancakes, waffles, longganisa, tapa, daing, fried rice, cheese and cold cuts, croissant, yogurt, I can go on and on!
At around 4-5 in the afternoon, I suggest you hang out in the pool or beach area and be prepared to be surprised as you will be showered with tons of different treats and favors! Think buko pandan, suman, maja blanca, sago’t gulaman, etc! The staff roams around the resort giving these out while there is also a food cart located near the poolside bar. Too lazy to go out? A Discovery Shores staff would knock on your door from time to time and give you sweet little treats plus a little note explaining what the dish is. You’d never go hungry here! Haha!
I feel like this is the same with number 1 but let me expound. Haha! The staff of Discovery Shores Boracay are trained to give you the best possible experience in the island, literally! The staff greeted us everywhere while placing their palm on their hearts. They seem so genuine and they really make you feel welcome and home.
Did I mention that they offer complimentary van service for the whole duration of your stay? Go anywhere you want in the island and they’ll take you there! When it’s time to head back home (just the thought of this makes me sad lol), a Discovery Shores staff helps you check-in at the airport! Delayed flight? Discovery Shores has their own lounge!
There you have it. Imagine me writing this while I’m stuck in Manila, describing how beautiful the island is plus all those delicious food in the resort! Haha! I highly recommend that you book a trip to Boracay and stay at Discovery Shores. Trust me, it is worth every centavo. I can’t wait to go back again!
P.S. To celebrate Discovery Shores Boracay’s 10th Anniversary, you can book one of their Junior Suite rooms for a special rate of Php 10,500++ per night! That includes roundtrip transfers to and from Caticlan Airport! You can book now for stays from June to November 2017 here.
