Ahhh, summer. Don’t you just love it? Even though it almost feels like we have this season all year round, I can’t help but pretend like I’m a student who’s on his summer break. Haha! I have very fond memories of my summer break when I was still in school. I would take 2 naps a day, do a movie marathon, swim at the clubhouse, meet up with my friends, walk across home and order a big glass of halo-halo, I just love it. Now that I’m older (ugh), I’ve learned to enjoy summer—while being productive
in between and still squeezing in some work. Since I feel like I’ve been waking up earlier than usual and getting more out of my day this summer, I thought it would be nice to share with you my summer morning routine! Since I work as a freelancer, every day is different. There are days when I would travel or go on that 10am meeting, so here’s a rundown of what usually happens during my mornings. Enjoy and happy summer to you all!

5:30 AM – Wake up. I’m not even kidding. I feel like one of those old people who wakes up so early to go brisk walking outside or clean up outside their homes lol. I, however, have been waking up this early for the past 3 weeks. I don’t really know why but I love it. I usually stay in bed till 6am. I say a prayer—then proceed to checking my Instagram and Twitter timeline. Haha I’m sure you guys do this too!

6:15 AM – Prepare breakfast. Recently I’ve been into making health bowls. I start with three huge scoops of Greek Yogurt (get the one with a hint of honey), add frozen bananas, frozen blueberries and raspberries, muesli, chia seeds and sliced almonds. You can also add a spoonful of peanut butter for that added protein. I also get my meals from Health Kitchen Manila. They basically make customized meals pans to help you with your fitness goals. Since I workout, I need a lot of protein. I love it because it never seems like I’m on a diet. Every single dish is absolutely delicious!

7:00 AM – Time to work. I start with checking my emails. I draft my replies to my clients and send it to them at around 9am—just to make sure I’m the first one that pops into their inbox once they reach the office. Haha! After I reply to emails, I draft my blog posts for the day—when I’m in the zone, I draft blog posts for the week. Since I will be traveling for the next three weeks, I’ve been drafting a lot of blog posts so I won’t spend so much time writing when I’m out of the country. I also go to a nearby coffee shop when I feel like I’m more productive there. I don’t really get inspired working at home because I get so distracted with so many things—and it gives me the excuse to work while lying down in bed (which isn’t good lol) so I try my best to go to a coffee shop! There’s one just a couple of blocks away from home and they serve the best pumpkin soup and iced latte!

10: 00 AM – After checking my emails and drafting blog posts, (sometimes this take me 4-6 hours), I head to the gym (I go to Fitness First—about 5 minutes away from home), and get that workout in! I usually start with a 20 minute run on the treadmill to get those blood flowing. Then I go do my usual routine for about 40 minutes. I usually do chest and arms, then shoulders and back on the next day, then legs and chest again on the following day. I end each workout with a 5-10 minute ab workout (which I don’t get to do a lot because I would be so tired from my workout so I usually skip this lol). After that I take a nice cold shower in the gym and get dressed! Every twice a month, I do the groceries at S&R to stock up on the essentials (and not so essential lol). Sometimes I book an appointment with Facial Care Centre for Men and Marie France for a much needed pampering. I don’t want to go into detail but I’ll make sure to do a separate blog post to talk more about this.

12:00 NN – Time for lunch. Sometimes I bring my packed meals with me and eat them at the lobby of the gym. Most days I eat out—I usually for go the Greek salad at Coffee Bean, or the spring rolls at Pho Hoa, or the salmon sashimi (with salad) at Bubble Tea. Those are the only healthy options I know within the area. After lunch I usually go to Makati/Fort area for client meetings and events! I won’t go into that because again, everyday is different. There are days when I would have 2-4 events a day, some days there are none. So as a freelancer, it’s really up to you if you want to work hard that day and do everything you need to do, or laze around and watch movies the whole day. The latter sounds so tempting but I think as a grown up, I’ve learned to maximize my day and work harder than I did yesterday. You are never really done proving yourself. May it be in the industry you work in, or proving yourself. Remember, it’s up to you how you want to live your life. So make the most out of it. How do you usually spend your mornings?
