Have you ever been to a place where you didn’t have high expectations–only to find yourself to be completely blown away? That’s exactly what happened to me in Barcelona. With my Spanish VISA being granted only a few hours before my flight (imagine how anxious I was), I conditioned myself not to get too excited about the trip.
The next thing I knew, I was on a 19-hour flight to Spain with the Police Eyewear/Ideal Vision team. It’s an understatement to say that I fell completely in love with Barcelona. I had a few hours to settle in so I went for a little walk outside the hotel and in that short span of time I got to see die hard football fans, female bus drivers and fist-fights in the subway–I knew I was in for an exciting trip.
The beautiful architecture is what blew me away. It had a stunning combination of gothic, renaissance and modernism–all working so well together. You can find houses, churches, monuments and buildings scattered around Barcelona designed and built by the famous Spanish Catalan architect, Antoni Gaudí. Even if you don’t know anything about architecture or Gaudí, when you walk the streets of Barcelona you will intuitively be able to identify a Gaudí building –they are pretty hard to miss. We got to explore La Padrera, Park Güell, Casa Battló, La Sagrada Familia, Plaça Catalunya, Camp Nou (and got to watch a FC Barcelona game!), Museu Nac d’Art de Catalunya, Port Vell, Barri Gótic, Barceloneta, etc.
But architecture isn’t the only thing to visit Barcelona–the food is AMAZING. Every meal consisted of tapas (wide variety of appetizers), paella, chorizo, gambas, churros and a pitcher (yes, a pitcher) of sangria (consists of wine, chopped fruit, a sweetener and brandy). The shopping was pretty awesome as well. ZARA, Mango Man and Desigual (all Spanish brands) were relatively cheap.
I only had 3 short days in Barcelona but I got a good mix of fun and culture in this beautiful city. It’s probably one of the few countries I wouldn’t mind visiting over and over again. A big thank you to the Police Eyewear and Ideal Vision team for this amazing trip! I should probably stop talking and let you enjoy 50 photos (trust me, it was difficult to narrow them down) from my trip! Gracias, Barcelona!
