For Toyota, safety is top priority. It’s not just a set of rules; it’s how they do business. It is the very heart of the company. Toyota constantly develops technology to create safer cars so we can have safe roads.

Research has shown that only 20% of people in the Philippines wear seatbelt. Let’s get this number up to 100%, can we? I find this very alarming. Seatbelts are not ornaments; it can actually save lives! I always drive with a seatbelt and I encourage my passengers to do the same. Sometimes I would go as far as not moving the vehicle if my passengers are not yet buckled up- yes even those seated at the back.

DSCF8776To increase awareness, Toyota is challenging YOU to unleash your creativity and promote road and personal safety by creating your original seatbelt pad design! You can do it either by hand drawn or computer graphics.

All entries must follow this size. Open Size: 19.5cm (W) x 23.5cm (L) | Closed Size: 7.5cm (W) x 23.5cm (L)

The Toyota Seatbelt Art Contest is a regional design competition open to everyone in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. So to my fellow Filipinos, I challenge you to show your creativity and win this one of a kind contest!

Since I support this cause, I decided to give it a try and designed my own seatbelt pad too. I went for a galaxy design because I was inspired by THUMS. Who is THUMS? You’ll get to know him later.

I used Adobe Fireworks to design this one. In case you didn’t know, I took up Multimedia Arts in college so I know a little bit about graphic designing. I hope you don’t get disappointed lol

Thums is Toyata’s mascot for their safety technology. His name comes from his initials “Total HUman Model for Safety” (medyo pinilit lol). His dream is to create a safer road environment with the help of everyone.

Don’t underestimate THUMS. Unlike a conventional crash-test dummy, THUMS has internal organs, bones and tendons (I don’t even know what tendons are—but it sure reminds me of tenderloin) ANYWAY, for this reason, THUMS is able to pinpoint precisely which parts of his body are affected by various high-impact accidents. Toyota has also asked him to help research institutes and car companies across the automotive industry in Southeast Asia to improve everyone’s safety.

So make sure that you include THUMS in your design! He must be part of your work!
